If you're looking for a comprehensive Rio de Janeiro travel information and guide, then you have come to the right place. This is not your run-of-the mill, standard stuff, travel website.

After many visits to Brazil over the past 20 years, people often ask us what it's like in Rio. We've found that not one word or phrase can possibly describe the place, but the laid back "Cariocas" (Rio residents) aptly refer to it as the "Cidade Maravilhosa" (The Marvelous City)!!

It truly is a marvelous place because of its amazing natural beauty and for its seemingly endless leisure, dining, and entertainment choices.

Whether you plan to stay 5 days or 5 weeks, come for the wild Carnival (Carnaval), New Year's Eve (Revéillon), or visit any other time of the year, this city has much to offer the international traveler.

What awaits you in Brazil are the beautiful Ipanema and Copacabana beaches, a cosmopolitan city with a vibrant nightlife, fantastic restaurants, many outdoor activities, urban forests and numerous sightseeing excursions. Don't miss the famous Ipanema Hippie Fair or weekly Farmers Markets!

By day, you can swim and surf at one of the many fantastic beaches, shop for trendy fashions in elegant boutiques, ride the cable car up to Sugarloaf (Pćo de Açúcar) that over looks the beautiful bay, or take in the incomparable views of the city from Christ the Redeemer Statue (Cristo Redentor) atop Corcovado Mountain.

Or you might just want to enjoy an ice cold chopp (draft beer) at a one of fashionable bars or at a popular Botequim (an open air bar with restaurant table service) and simply watch the world go by.

By night, with a Caipirinha in hand (the Brazilian national drink), you can watch the sunset from a rooftop hotel bar in chic Ipanema Beach. Then enjoy some of the best food the world has to offer in a wide variety of fantastic restaurants, including the popular Brazilian Churrascaria Steakhouses .

Later, hit one of the trendy Rio de Janeiro nightclubs, party the night away in the Samba dance clubs in the bohemian Lapa district, or enjoy live Bossa Nova music or some other rich musical heritage the city has to offer.

You might just find yourself on Copacabana Beach again at dawn watching the sunrise!

Head to some of the other beaches in Rio, including secluded Joatinga Beach, the ultimate surfer beach Prainha, or the pristine eco-preserve Grumari Beach.

Whatever your desires might be, they can probably be fulfilled here...
