courtesy of Rio 2016 Olympic Committee "Rio 2016" will become a familiar phrase heard around the world over the next several years. On October 2nd, 2009, the "Marvelous City", Rio de Janeiro, Brazil won the bid to host the first ever Summer Olympics to be held in South America. Among the top 10 world economies, Brazil is the only country that has not yet hosted the Olympic Games. In the final round of voting, Rio's winning bid over Madrid was rather decisive - 66 votes to 32.

The driving force behind Rio's 2016 Olympics bid was Brazilian President, Luiz Inácio "Lula" da Silva. Lula worked tirelessly and to the point of exhaustion to help Brazil win the 2016 Olympic bid. As his Presidential term ends in 2011, it's expected that Lula will become fully engaged in preparing Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Olympics.

And the emotion of the president stirred those who attended the post-election conference. "I cried at the press conference because I didn’t dare to cry during the presentation. I have been through so much, met so many people and, suddenly, I was the most emotional. Human beings need challenges and Brazil needed these Olympic Games. We just needed an opportunity to show that we are a great nation. Today is one of the most exciting days of my life. I feel even more proud to be Brazilian. Rio deserves it. Brazil deserves it. The Brazilian people deserve it," said Lula.

FiveCurrents, a creative and production company located in Monterey California, was the Executive Producer for Rio 2016’s recent successful Olympic bid, responsible for producing the IOC Evaluation Commission’s visit to Rio, and all presentations, videos and creative support for the campaign. Chairman of NBC Universal Sports & Olympics Dick Ebersol said of the final presentation in Copenhagen in October, “Rio’s presentation was the best I have seen in 20 years.” FiveCurrents will also produce the 2010 Rio New Year's Eve celebration (Reveillon) on Copacabana Beach. The preparation for the Summer Olympics will soon begin in earnest, as there are much building and infrastructure improvements to be completed. Brazil will also host the 2014 World Cup Soccer Tournament, with Rio being one of the host cities. Residents of Rio de Janeiro, as well as tourists who visit Ipanema and Copacabana Beaches over the next few years, will also reap the benefits of the infrastructure improvements. Visitors to Rio will see new hotels being built and existing hotels renovated.

The Rio 2016 Olympic games will be held August 5th to the 21st. The theme will continue to be "Live Your Passion."

(Refrain).

Lyrics in English:

Marvelous city, Full of a thousand charms, Marvelous city, Heart of my Brazil, Marvelous city, Full of a thousand charms, Marvelous city, Heart of my Brazil!

Cradle of Samba and beautiful songs, That live in the souls of the people, You are the altar of our hearts, Our happy hearts sing and say...

(Refrain).
